Not Normal (Fred & Connor drabble, G)

Today's Connor drabble day over at [livejournal.com profile] good__evil and so my (probably) last contribution to [livejournal.com profile] madame_meretrix's first line meme went in his direction. First line of this is hers.

Not Normal

“You’ll love this.” Fred pushed the tiny, elegant box across the table at him. “Chocolate! Just try it.”

Connor politely took one of the tiny, elegant truffles.

“This is one of the things I missed most in Pylea,” she said dreamily. “I mean, I missed my family, clean clothes, showers… but at night, I dreamed of chocolate.” She popped one into her own mouth and closed her eyes in quiet bliss.

She opened them just in time to see Connor spit his into a tissue.

“You don’t like it?” She looked appalled. “Wes, are you sure he’s not part demon?”

*g* Cute. Makes me want to hunt around in the cupboard for some sweets. :)

Hee, yes! I was thinking of Thornton's amazing truffles when I wrote it, but I don't have any. :(

LOL! Very funny. Loved the contrast between the tiny, elegant truffles and Connor spitting into his tissue. Thank heavens I just happen to have a Chocolate Orange on my desk or I'd be running up to the shop. *g*

Oh, I love Terry's Chocolate Oranges! :)

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it - I'm always happy to provide an excuse for chocolate. *g*

I love this! I think you've done a great job with Fred here, and I love the concept as well.

I can absolutely hear Fred saying this:
“This is one of the things I missed most in Pylea,” she said dreamily. “I mean, I missed my family, clean clothes, showers… but at night, I dreamed of chocolate.”

Thanks! That's really nice, to hear that Fred sounded accurate.

I liked the idea of Connor being introduced to (and probably overwhelmed by) the million things we like in our dimension - but if you've grown up with different tastes, you may not like even such things as chocolate!

I adore this! A perfect Fred and Connor interaction. I love this:
“This is one of the things I missed most in Pylea,” she said dreamily. “I mean, I missed my family, clean clothes, showers… but at night, I dreamed of chocolate.” She popped one into her own mouth and closed her eyes in quiet bliss.

heee to Connor's reaction. The last line is awesome!! *g*

Hee! I know people who don't like chocolate, and I accept it - I just don't understand it! ;)

Thanks, it's great to hear that the voices worked for you.

hee! i keep saying it, but that's because it's still true: I love seeing where the lines take you. It's such a delightful juxtaposition of my intent and all the other possibilities. I read the first line with all of the baggage that comes with knowing the original context, and then it blooms into a whole different world. It's really neat.

I thought this line was particularly beautiful: "but at night, I dreamed of chocolate.”

I wonder if demons are like dogs, in that they can't eat chocolate? Not that Connor is one... is he? a demon? what's your opinion?

This was a lovely drabble, Gwen. Thanks for making it!

I don't think Connor's a demon. No idea on demons in general and chocolate... hmm, do we have any canonical examples? One thing that springs to mind is Angel, the day where he's human (is that season 1?) - I seem to recall a mention of how things all taste different (Buffy's feeding him peanut butter or something.) If human food doesn't taste the same to vampires... maybe chocolate isn't appealing!

Though obviously Connor isn't a vampire either. He's grown up elsewhere, with completely different tastes, though.

Thanks - for the prompts, and the fb! It has been fun to see where these lines might go.
