Title: Black Flag Over Texas
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~32,000 words

Summary: Jensen belongs to a team of mercenary vigilantes that is trying to stop a group of anarchists whose goal is the dissolution of the USA. They get information that a student group on UT Dallas campus is harboring at least one of the major players, and Jensen is assigned to an undercover mission to infiltrate the group.

His first day on campus, he meets a final-year PhD student named Jared who would be exactly Jensen’s type – if he weren’t a prime suspect. Move by move, like chess pieces, actions escalate, and the stakes get higher. Jensen and his colleagues are dealing with computer espionage, bombings, and kidnapping threats, as the institutions of government waver around them, threatening to fall. Ultimately, Jensen is forced to make a choice that pits revenge and love against the greater good.

Disclaimer: This is purely a work of fiction.

Warnings: Violence, language, sex under the influence of chemicals, discussion of politics.

Author's Notes: Written for the 2011 round of [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang. Art by [livejournal.com profile] ladytiferet, who was a real pleasure to work with and put up with my last-minute flailing with great aplomb and grace. Big hugs are due to [livejournal.com profile] laisserais and [livejournal.com profile] dancetomato for beta-reading and fixing all my non-American vocabulary. Any remaining errors are of course entirely my fault (and please do let me know about them!) And of course, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] wendy and [livejournal.com profile] thehighwaywoman for all their work in coordinating this amazing event.

This is set in the same universe as last year's story Green Means Go. It is a prequel, but both stories stand alone, and may be read in either order.

Cover Two

Nine hours and 2.5K words to go.

This is a hell of a lot better than yesterday, when I was at 10K total, and had a major plothole (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] madame_meretrix for helping me work through that one!) But I'm still only about two-thirds of the way through my 25-sentence outline.

I keep reminding myself all I need is a DRAFT.

And tea. MOAR TEA.

And maybe an explosion or two.

I now know what a nautical mile is, how fast the average human can walk/swim/run, what an MRI pulse is doing to protons, and how long it takes for water purification tablets to work. Also, what time the sun will set on June 18, 2015 in Phoenix. I NEED TO QUIT MESSING WITH THIS DAMN STORY BEFORE I WEAR OUT GOOGLE. Or drive my husband crazy.

DT, it will be with you TONIGHT, I swear. *flails*

My bigbang posting day is under two weeks away! I still have some expansion stuff to write and yet more editing, but I'm not too panicked yet. It's been really exciting seeing the artwork [livejournal.com profile] apieceofcake is creating!

Like many stories, mine shifts between different character POVs in different sections. There will be dividers between the sections (not just the usual 4 line blank spacing, thanks to my lovely artist!) I am undecided as to whether it is a good idea or not to identify the person in whose POV the section is written. Sometimes I like that, the cute little nametag dividers. Other times I think, meh, it's not like I couldn't figure it out, at least if the writing's any good.

So I was waffling on that and suddenly realized I haven't posted a poll in ages.

So I'm seeing all these [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang reveal posts...

Title: Green Means Go
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: R
Summary: After the US fragmented along political and religious lines, the Ghosts, a group of agents run by Jeff Morgan, became the unofficial power behind the Republic of Texas. Jared has worked for the Ghosts for years; after the death of his family, they were all he had left. Jensen had been his friend, mentor, and more. And then Jensen died too.

Four years later, Jared is on a routine mission when his world is turned upside down. Jensen’s alive – but has no memory of his old life, of Jared, or of the mission that (almost) got him killed. All of a sudden, old rivalries are resurfacing, and now Jared and Jensen are on the run from the Republic, the oil corporations, and even their own side. On their way to the Free State of California, they get shot at, blown up, and Jared gets knocked out of an airplane. There’s a surprise waiting for them in Cali, though, and a secret that could change the world – if Jensen can remember the key.

Title is fairly random because it was three minutes to midnight and I had forgotten I needed one. O_o

I had this completely ridiculous freak-out when I couldn't find my own summary and thought OH GOD IT MUST HAVE BEEN MISPLACED OR POSSIBLY I IMAGINED MAKING THE DEADLINE or something equally paranoid. And then it turned out it was there all along and I was just blind and/or stupid (and/or sleep-deprived) and [livejournal.com profile] apieceofcake had claimed it in the second round! YAY! \o/

...And for some reason it is almost all plot and no porn. WTF BRAIN.

Story draft for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang due tomorrow! Have about 23K words but not an actually coherent story yet! Mostly there, but not all there! And there's work, and kids, and tree planting tomorrow!

I've put enough into this, I'm not flaking out at the last minute. I'm not.

*flails*

...and not just me procrastinating on bigbang.

You're my friends. How would you hide a dead body?

ETA: You guys are too good at this! *eyes you* I should have specified it has to be findable. Hidden by someone who knows what they're doing, but findable by someone who is extremely good at such things.

I am actually making progress on [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang. I'm currently about 1000 words behind schedule, but I continue to put words down and they don't all suck. I don't think.

I need a beta reader, though, and I'm asking for more than usual. I'd like to have someone look over the incomplete (maybe about half) fic I've got so far, chat about how it looks from an outside perspective in terms of plot, pace, etc. - and then I imagine it will need to be read over a couple more times, new chunks, edited versions... I get the feeling some people have this kind of beta relationship anyway, but for me it's always been send out the almost-final version once I'm done and happy with it, make fairly minor edits, and post immediately - no back-and-forth, no majorly incomplete stories. Plus, this is of course going to be 20K+ as opposed to my usual ~3K, so.

I know you're all busy people (and some are extra busy writing their own bigbang!), but I thought I'd ask here first before heading to [livejournal.com profile] spn_betas. By the way, it's CWRPF, J2 AU, medically-unlikely amnesia, probably too many explosions. (Yes, I am being highly self-indulgent, why do you ask?)
